Understanding the Owners of the Transcontinental Railroad:
Leland stanford should be a name well known in todays time. He was originally a laywer who decided to remake himself in the california gold rush as a shop keeper. When sacremento continued to boom Leland made alot of money and went on to  make friendships with many other wealthy men in the republican party.Leland standford would become govenor of sacremento the following year. when he became govenor he made many ties with great men of history one being fellow republican abraham lincon. With all these investors and power leland became introduced with the rail road buisness. The men associated with the rail road business were self made wealthy men who believed in the success of the rail road and poured lots of money into the building of the rail roads. some even went to the extent of putting money that wasn't theirs, such as when leland used state funds to invest into the railroad. Stanford may have been frustrating to his partners yet wasn't completely incompetent. Although just like state funds stanford in the end would dip his hands into the companies cookie jar to take money to fund A university dedicated to him and to build lavish homes. I don't know enough about the men behind the transcontinental to call them corrupt yet these men by no means seemed to have thought about anything about there legacy and money.
