Jungle investigation/interpretation

1. To survive and succeed in packing town you must aquire the art of desception. All the business wanted was to keep their secrets and to outperform each other. You had to be a hard fast worker to survive the company but to rise through its ranks you must spy and betray the man above you.

2. As a plant owner all you could ever want is to have work done aas quickly as possible. Many men would work themselves so hard right out of the job where a new man would take his place. The owner did not care how things were done as long as it was inexpensive and made him maximum profit.

3.A man was worth anything only the dollars he made was his worth. Money was worth more than human life thats all anyone cared about.

Research: Federal Meat Inspection Act of 1906. After the publication of the jungle’s expose on the meat packing industry president theodore roosevelt launched an investigation of the meat packing industry. The results were shocking and revolted the investigators who saw the facility. Their reports ended in Roosevelt supporting the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA). Now Plants are inspected regularly to ensure that meat is processed in a sanitary manner. There were four main points in the (FMIA)
Federal Meat Inspection Act of 1906:
1. Mandatory inspection of animals before slaughter
2. Mandatory inspection of post mortem carcass
3. Sanitary standards established for slaughterhouses and meat processing plants.
4. Authorized U.S. Department of Agriculture ongoing monitoring and inspection of slaughter and processing operations.

Why Would Spain Sink the Maine?

Why Would Spain Sink the Maine?

Put yourself in the position of Spain. Your empire is crumbling before your very eyes. Your colonies are slipping out of your grasp and people are generally displeased with your treatment of your people. Even worse though is there is a new rising world power, America! You know that people have mixed ideas of imperialism and slowly they are looking for a reason to police The world and expand there influence on other countries creating bonds to trade on. With all this resting on the line While a few men such as President Mckinley hold back the dis-comtempt of the people why would you sink a boat you know would result in war.
With all this going on the spanish also invited us to come to Cuba. they had us join them for dinner on the ship for americans to enjoy. The spanish military may not of liked us much but to keep there fragile empire from war the only chance Spain had was to have us at bay. However with americans ready for war and yellow journalism Bashing the spanish Mckinley had no choice but to go to war so to stay popular with the people.
"Both the Spanish and American governments investigated the explosion.  Neither could produce reasonably conclusive evidence, and each blamed the other.  The Spanish said it was an accident, and while the US didn't rule this out, they said the Spanish somehow caused it."

This was in conclusion of the first investigation of the sinking later to be disproven by National Geographic Society when they did an investigation in 1999. All investigations agreed that an explosion of the forward magazines caused the destruction of the ship, but different conclusions were reached as to how the magazines could have exploded
Weather this explosion was an accident or sabotage  we can likely agree that it was not in Spains interest to go to war with america leaving it to Self sabotage or Cuban rebels who would have gained most in seeking americas help. By blowing up the ship cuban rebels would have finally given america the incentive they lacked to go to war.
Some conclude that The US may have been involved wishing to go to war as to try new military might and further economic gain in Journalism.

Tractors Before They Were Tractors

Before the late 1800’s farmers either had a plethora of people and farm hands to maintain the ranch and complete all the chores the day provided, or they had animals and people to do the work. Yet with a growing nation and the sweeping reform of the industrial revolution farmers needed away to produce more while spending less. It wasn’t until around 1860’s that tractors began to show up in what would become a modern ranch in todays times. Yet back then the tractors didn't quite perform all the wonderful things a modern tractor would. THese tractors were not even internal combustion engine. the original “tractor’s” (not yet called that) looked like mini locomotives with wheels. There sole purpose was to drag logs or heavy loads to destinations that would have been previously more difficult. The Tractors later would become more agricultural when people began to drag plows behind them. As time went on into the late 19th century and 20th century the tractor would be seen for its potential. through slow developments such as the gasoline engine and better transmission the tractor would look more like the machinery we know. Due to this simple invention farms would be drastically changed. The productivity of men and this machine would change the land.

Understanding the Owners of the Transcontinental Railroad:
Leland stanford should be a name well known in todays time. He was originally a laywer who decided to remake himself in the california gold rush as a shop keeper. When sacremento continued to boom Leland made alot of money and went on to  make friendships with many other wealthy men in the republican party.Leland standford would become govenor of sacremento the following year. when he became govenor he made many ties with great men of history one being fellow republican abraham lincon. With all these investors and power leland became introduced with the rail road buisness. The men associated with the rail road business were self made wealthy men who believed in the success of the rail road and poured lots of money into the building of the rail roads. some even went to the extent of putting money that wasn't theirs, such as when leland used state funds to invest into the railroad. Stanford may have been frustrating to his partners yet wasn't completely incompetent. Although just like state funds stanford in the end would dip his hands into the companies cookie jar to take money to fund A university dedicated to him and to build lavish homes. I don't know enough about the men behind the transcontinental to call them corrupt yet these men by no means seemed to have thought about anything about there legacy and money.
